Ginza Bairin

Last weekend, the hubby and I escaped for a quick date. I remember Daphne almost ran out of pj's (she literally outgrew everything we bought in the last 6months) while hubby needed new dry-fit shirts. For hubby's clothes, our shopping venue will always be in Trinoma. I don't know but he sort of have everything he needs in that mall. Good thing he seldom shops! LOL.

I restrained myself from shopping so after getting so tired without my own paper bags, I asked him to find a place to dine. I thought I was too tired to think of a good place to eat but then I saw something purple with a hint of golden yellow. We followed the light and went Japanese for a night at Ginza Bairin.

I'm glad there were no intimidating staff welcoming you with loud voices to get everyone's attention! That's pretty common in Japanese restos, right? We came exactly dinner time so most seats were taken, that explains why we're in the most corner. Wooden fixtures around me - I love!

It was raining so the air-condition froze my hubby's almost skinny head, while I enjoy sipping their calming house tea. About 95% of the customers inside were groups of Japanese families so I expect the food to be exceptional and authentic compared to other katsu houses in Manila. The menu has a little more options to choose from, surprisingly.

I chose the Premium White Fish fry set (Php375). The presentation is very much familiar so no "amazeballs" coming from my end. 6 cuts of fried white fish, sticky rice, miso soup, overflowing eat-all-you-can shredded cabbage and a very big plate. The lady staff was too prompt in giving us refills.

Here's the complete set just before I devoured all. I love love love that there was no icky oily taste in my katsu. Very soft inside. Not sure if it was horseradish on upper right but that was perfect with my tartar sauce. After all, the fried fish has nothing salty in it.

Hubby ordered Rosu Katsu Curry set with cheese (Php375). I tried one strip and it was good. Katsu in curry with steamed rice is FTW! Just a tip, don't underestimate the curry. I want this for my next order.

Pardon my messy hair but I was really hungry that time so I couldn't care less anymore. LOL! Dinner was good although nothing superlatives can describe. It's almost a new favorite until we got our bill. Apparently, the food prices were VAT excluded and add ten percent service charge on top of it. I think I'll still try Ginza Bairin again but I should miss the food a lot for me to sit in. Anyhow, we got excellent customer service so we still left a reasonable tip and regardless of a jam-packed place, noise level was at a minimum.
