Beauty Routine

Thank goodness the sun is up again! He finally gave in to our wishes and I'm one of those who are truly grateful waking up to a brand new day. As we all pray for our weather to become more stable, I certainly hope too that we learn from the traces that Southwest monsoon left us.

Anyways, just recently, my little girl is starting to play with our little mirror at home. I actually like having those smaller ones which I can use whenever it's time for my beauty regimens. Speaking of which, I don't really have anything specific since then. A lot of my friends experienced breakouts during teenage years but I guess I'm lucky enough to be an exemption. My horror eventually started during the first quarter of my pregnancy. Acne breakouts, redness, dry or flaky skin - name it, I got it! It's normal for me to wake up with a swollen pimple everyday and I can only stare at myself because I'm not allowed to apply anything on my face as it may risk my baby's health.

Here's a proof with my skin issues:

(photos from L-R: No make up, obviously "bagong gising" look and a photo during my 3rd trimester, pimples and scars very visible. They look like totally two different people, LOL!)

Those breakouts finally subdued when I gave birth but left some dark spots and marks. I finally accepted my skin's sensitivity when I aged and my goal is to at least prevent having breakouts. I'm still in search for the best treatment products and with my current skin's condition, I think these ones below went well to my skin type. They say that the rule is to cleanse, tone and moisturize - the simplest yet the most effective routine because it requires one to be holistic to achieve better results.

I chose Liquid Neutrogena facial cleanser for my everyday use. Indeed, it is mild and fragrance-free. As much as possible, I try to avoid using scrubs as my delicate skin turns really red after washing. This is hypo-allergenic and goes well for all skin types. I like how it makes my face squeaky clean with a bit of shiny ones on thin surfaces.

For my moisturizer, Celeteque has been my trusted brand. I always want it water-based and oil free. Those heavy, sticky ones makes me feel that dirt and dust easily stick on my face. The aloe vera extract acts as the cooling agent that soothes my dry skin.  If you noticed, I skip toners. I believe that adds more chemical reaction whenever I apply moisturizers. So, that's only wash and moisturize for me before sleeping.

I chose Garnier Skin Naturals for my non-greasy whitening cream. It has pure lemon essence and enriched with salicylic acids with anti-bacterial properties to help cure acne marks and dark spots. It's been my habit to apply this after taking a shower. I tried a few creams with the same ingredients but only turned my skin irritated that's why you really have to be careful and observant on how your face reacts to a product.

They don't really need to be too expensive to say it's effective. If you found something that works well with your skin then by all means, stick to that product. But of course, why deprive yourself if you've got a lot to spend, right? :)

For my pimple problems, I used Sansacne 4%. Whenever I see red marks about to form a pimple the following day, I already prevent it by putting an ample amount on the affected area before bedtime. It really dries your pimple and sometimes even the skin surrounding it, so it's best that you moisturize  after the treatment.

These products don't guarantee permanent solution to my skin problems but like I said, the more holistic you are with regimens, the more possibilities to acquire desired results. I will try to post another photo after a month of continued beauty routine and treatments and see the results. Again, these are just my home regimens but it's always recommended to visit a dermatologist who can help us more, especially if the skin condition cannot be easily treated with over the counter products.

I'm sure you have beauty regimens too. Would you like to share some ideas?

Gloomy Wednesday

Just as we painted a smile with excitement waking up to a brighter Manila this morning, the rain suddenly poured again before close of business day. What we are suffering now is too much from what we had with Ondoy. I understand that this is just rain and Filipinos being known as resilient people can surpass these trials, but really, would you have the courage to say that when tragedy knocks at your doorstep?

Being a first time Mom made me an optimistic and pessimistic person at the same time. I just can't help it, maybe because I try to foresee the inevitable just so I have plans A to Z during worst case scenarios. My husband stays out of town due to work and without any choice I need to be that superwoman that I should be.

Imagine my frustration when our office didn't call off work yesterday despite the weather. Together with my colleagues, we kept monitoring each announcements from the MalacaƱang Palace, hoping and silently praying that they give an immediate order to allow BPO employees to be sent home. Was still lucky to leave before 2pm but my heart keeps pounding as I rushed myself, thinking of my daughter and Mom's safety at home, plus my husband who's in a different place. Until now, I still feel bad how some employers could be so inhumane and inconsiderate. I really wish our government impose rules covering BPO companies. This is a growing business in the country and thousands of us need safety and assurance too.

So much about ranting. On the other hand, I am still thankful that I arrived home safely and almost close to tears when I hugged my daughter. Exasperated, yes, but got relieved that I'm finally with them. It's a hundred miles different from just hearing them on the other line! Thankful that amidst heavy rainfall, the network signal remained stable and all my calls went through to my husband.

I think this photo collage describes the feeling of relief and joy. If you're a Mom too, I'm sure that you feel weaker when you're away from your kid, but of course they don't really need to know that. Their amount of courage and confidence depends on what they see from you as their parent, more than anyone else in this planet. Therefore, the rays of positivity should always shine on you no matter what situation you're currently in.

Pray for Philippines

I felt like this day  is a repeat of how devastated Manila was, back in 2009, when typhoon Ondoy released his wrath in just a short span of time. A lot of us were really caught unprepared. I, for instance, took it as a heavy rain shower and just ignored it by continuing my weekend dose. Who would have thought that it will lead to a traumatic experience, especially to those who live near the riverbanks and catch basin areas? For once, mother nature appealed to take it as a wake up call. Needless to say, our country remains a magnet of series of unfortunate events.

Now that nature strikes back and once again our beloved country is battling with this catastrophe, we can only extend our helping hands to reach out with our fellow brothers and sisters. I am re-posting this old entry of mine to spread awareness on how we can show compassion to those in need.

I encourage you to lend a hand through http://www.redcross.org.ph/donate. Below is the most convenient for me and I hope you consider it too:

Dad's Ultimate Buffet

Allow me to share my first experience with my team at Dad's Ultimate Buffet. At last, this is no longer an impromptu dinner so all of us were able to prepare an empty tummy for this feast. We first thought of trying another buffet place assuming that it will be difficult to book a table for 9 at Dad's. Surprisingly, when we reached there at 5pm, we were the first group on the waiting list. One thing I liked being the first is that you have option to choose the best seats. On my left side is overlooking EDSA traffic jam and the ongoing construction at the front parking area.

They call it the ultimate buffet as they have more than 200 choices from Kamayan and Saisaki. Since we don't do this more often, other than our food deliveries at work, we made sure that our tummies are fully satisfied from this treat. We want to try them all through little servings but of course that's hardly possible.

IMG_0094

This is my first stop being a Japanese food lover.
I picked a few pieces of their ebi tempura and fried crab sticks.

I also tried their Gyoza, a favorite item whenever we dine at a Japanese resto. Honestly, I'm partly satisfied already during my first stop. The carving station is our guys' favorite area where you can devour their roasted turkey, beef and leg of lamb. Was suggested to give it a try and it was indeed good, roasted lamb smothered with sauce that made it more flavorful. Nyum.

So delighted to see different types of maki and rolls. I don't really eat sashimi but decided to try one slice that night. It wasn't as bad as I thought, just need to make sure that my soy sauce is thick because of wasabi.

Here's where you can ask the waiters to cook, heat or grill for you and they serve it at your table. I forgot what I ordered here but I'm sure it was grilled.

This is what I call the "reward" area. A dessert haven for anyone with a sweet tooth. They offer a mix of traditional Filipino desserts, cakes, crepes plus an ice cream bar! Hurray! I'm sure everyone will make a room in their tummies for desserts.

My favorite chocolate fondue! I always want to try this at home!

Took all these photos using iPhone
These are just a few photos I took that night. Dad's buffet has a lot to offer and I can attest that whatever you pay for is totally worth it. I'm not surprised that the entire place was full at past 6. There's also this singing group who visits each table, good thing they did it when we were all full otherwise we'll just ignore them. Only five of us remain standing, LOL!

Hibernate + Cold Weather

Pardon me for a week long of hibernation. It's the time of the month again when my tasks and deadlines are wild and crazy! So much to share when I get back. For now, I'm just sending a short note from my iphone to my lovely readers. Stay dry and safe everyone! This weather seemed so weird, I really hope it gets better soon. Flooded areas are everywhere causing too much stress to those who need to go to work everyday, to think that work can't be suspended regardless of the heavy downpour. Add that pile of garbage washed in Manila Bay which is really alarming. My colleagues were talking about it earlier and I finally understood their disgust when I saw the news tonight. So much about bad stuff. We can only hope for a sunshiney weekend or at least see the glorious moon. Take loads of vitamin C, it surely helps this season. And most of all, take those lovely coats and boots off and enjoy the Baguio-ish temperature!

Much Love,
